Women in Agriculture Afghanistan
Our Goal
Our project set out with a simple goal: to work with the government and female extension agents to give them the tools they need to help rural women improve their kitchen gardens, preserve food, and strengthen their families’ food security. But early on, we realized there was a challenge, there were only 19 female extension agents in the entire country. So, we adapted. We broadened our definition of "extension worker" to include local community leaders and Farmer Field School leaders. This change made it possible for us to reach over 1,900 women lead farmers across 19 provinces of Afghanista—women who then helped others in their community do the same.
