Who We Are
Out of the Cocoon is a not-for-profit NGO founded on the belief that everyone has the right to a safe place to live, and a safe way to get there. We support Afghan women navigating the challenges of forced displacement by providing legal guidance, housing, and advocacy.

Our Mission
Our mission is to reduce the vulnerability of Afghan women fleeing persecution by helping them find safe, legal resettlement pathways in countries where women’s rights are protected. We advocate for their cases, assist with applications, and provide vital psychological and material support while they await immigration decisions.
Legal Immigration Assistance
We guide women through complex application processes and asylum pathways.
Case Advocacy & Agency Follow-up
We stay engaged with agencies and push for timely review of immigration cases.
Emergency Help & Support
We help cover housing, food, heating, and emergency relocation.
“Many of these women have lost jobs, homes, and family. All they’re asking for is a legal path to safety.”
- Volunteer Advocate, 2024
How It Started
Founded in response to the U.S. troop withdrawal in August 2021, Out of the Cocoon began as an informal mutual aid group helping Afghan families hide, apply for visas, and relocate. As the crisis deepened, we evolved into an organized nonprofit focused on long-term legal and logistical support for women in danger.
